British actor Idris Elba celebrates 50th birthday

 

British actor, producer and musician Idrissa Akuna Elba turned 50 on Tuesday.

The actor's birthday was announced via social media platforms when congratulations poured in.

Always known for his dramatic performances in movies, Idris broke his career on the HBO crime drama The Wire.

For his three seasons from 2002 to 2004, he played the role of financially savvy drug lord Russell "Stringer" Bell.

He has acted in over 50 films and has been nominated for many awards.

He has been nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and the Television Movie Award for which he has been nominated four times, resulting in a Primetime Emmy Award for which he has been nominated five times. Idris is married to Sabrina Doa Elba and is blessed with two children from a previous relationship.

His eldest daughter, Isan Elba, was born in 2002 to his first wife, Kim Norgard, and son Winston Elba, named after his (Idris) father, who died in 2013.
